Ben Wood, Dare-Devil!

Many of our customers will know Ben, but did you know that Ben is one of Panacea’s most active employees?

Ben Wood - Sky DivingBen can turn his hand to a number of dare-devil sports: climbing, cycling, surfing, sailing and… sky diving!

Ben’s first love is climbing and he’s completed traditional routes to E3 difficulty and sport routes up to F6c which, as you climbing aficionados will know, is pretty impressive stuff.  Ben Wood, MontseratBut of equal importance to Ben is bringing on the next generation of climbers.  Ben plays an important part in running a local climbing club that helps bring on younger climbers instilling a joy of the outdoors and respect for the mountains (they also seem to engender a fondness for a good curry but that’s a separate issue!)

Most recently Ben has been using his athletic prowess to benefit Woodlarks Campsite Trust in Farnham.  Woodlarks is a woodland camping experience for disabled campers.  Cycling - Lands End to John O'GroatsDisabled visitors have access to experiences from which they are often precluded.  Being an outdoors adrenaline junky, Ben realised how such experiences can transform one’s outlook of life and he and two friends set out to raise money to help develop the campsite’s facilities.  Being Ben, he didn’t just set out to run 5km or walk 20 miles.  No, he and his friends decided to cycle from Lands End to John O’Groats in under two weeks!  And they made it.  Despite challenges from bad weather, serious stomach complaints and an inability to get out of bed in the morning, the team made excellent time and raised a serious chunk of cash whilst building a strong bond of friendship.

How does he fit it all in?  He claims that it’s his excellent time management and that this is also why we deliver software integration projects on time.  I’m sure his manager will remember that when he’s nearing his next project deadline!
